OSPREY AMBASSADOR

JON HARRIS

Jon Harris is an Australian photographer and filmmaker whose work is shaped by a deep connection to wild places. Splitting his time between commercial projects and self-driven adventures, Jon captures landscapes and stories that reflect both the beauty and the challenge of the natural world.

With a background in long-distance hiking — including recently hiking the length of New Zealand’s South Island — his approach is grounded in experience, not just observation. Whether he’s navigating remote alpine terrain or working with brands to tell meaningful outdoor stories, Jon brings a thoughtful, detail-driven perspective to everything he creates.

As a returning Osprey ambassador, he’s passionate about gear that supports real adventure — the kind that starts before sunrise, pushes beyond comfort zones, and rewards those willing to go a little further.

What has been your most memorable adventure so far?

Spending 8 days hiking the Kungsleden trail in Sweden, chasing the Northern Lights. It has been a lifelong dream of mine to see the Aurora Borealis. I was so lucky to experience and photograph the Aurora on 5 separate nights while hiking from hut to hut through Arctic Sweden. Some unexpected highlights included many reindeer encounters, foraging wild blueberries along the trail and capturing the stunning autumn colour in the foliage.

What adventure pushed you the most mentally or physically?

Definitely hiking the length of NZ’s South Island! Mainly following the Te Araroa trail, with a few bonus side quests, this has without a doubt been my most challenging and rewarding adventure to date. Considered to be one of the most challenging thru-hikes in the world, the Te Araroa demanded extreme physical fitness while giving me the opportunity to mentally evolve in terms of how I deal with challenging scenarios.

If you could go back to when you first started exploring the outdoors, what advice would you give yourself?

I would tell a younger Jon to get out there and start exploring right now!! I spent far too long dreaming of adventures but never following through… I feel like I’ve wasted many precious years of wonderful outdoor adventures. But - I’m glad to be well and truly making the most of any opportunity I get now!

We are super excited to follow along all of Jon's adventures over the year, make sure you follow him on Instagram to stay up to date with his epic trips! @jonharris_photography ⛰️
